Death Can Wait": How William Hudson Defied Stage Four Cancer with Determination, Diet, and Hope

When William Hudson was diagnosed with stage four cancer, the prognosis was grim. His doctors told him he had less than ten months to live. But William refused to give up. Instead, he took matters into his own hands—researching, learning, and ultimately finding a holistic approach that he believes helped save his life.

In this interview, William shares the journey behind his book, Death Can Wait: How I Beat Stage Four Cancer Naturally. His story is not medical advice but a firsthand account of determination, research, and personal healing. William opens up about the steps he took, the mindset he adopted, and the alternative treatments he explored after traditional medicine had seemingly run out of options.

Interview with William Hudson

Q: William, let’s start with your diagnosis. What was going through your mind when you were told you had stage four cancer?

William:
It was devastating. Honestly, I felt like a ton of bricks had hit me. The shocking part was that I felt fine—I wasn’t sick, and there were no real warning signs. Yet, out of nowhere, I was told it was stage four. I skipped stages one through three entirely.

After failed immunotherapy and a very emotional conversation with my doctor, I was told I probably had less than ten months to live. My doctors basically gave up on me. But I wasn’t ready to give up on myself.

I’m a logical person by nature—my background is in computers and problem-solving. So instead of falling apart completely, I approached cancer as another problem to solve.

Q: The title of your book, Death Can Wait, feels bold. Why did you choose that name?

William:
Originally, I had titled the book You Don’t Have to Die: How I Beat Stage Four Cancer Naturally. But after some feedback, I realized that title could unintentionally feel harsh or even hurtful—especially to families who lost loved ones despite doing everything they could.

I changed it to Death Can Wait because it better captures my belief that a cancer diagnosis doesn’t have to be a death sentence. Yes, we’re all going to die someday—but maybe not today, and maybe not from cancer. There are options, there are choices, and most importantly, there is hope.

Q: You mentioned that after traditional treatments failed, you turned to natural methods. What were the key approaches you used?

William:
I focused on five key drivers that I credit with helping me stay cancer-free:

  1. Radically Changing My Diet – This included following the Budwig Diet, developed by Dr. Johanna Budwig. It’s a combination of flaxseed oil and cottage cheese, blended in a specific way. The science behind it focuses on oxygenating cells—healthy cells love oxygen, but cancer cells hate it.

  2. Using the Oxy Formula – This is an herbal blend with a long, controversial history. It dates back to the 1800s when a horse breeder noticed his cancer-stricken horses healed after grazing on certain herbs. The formula has been passed down through generations, and though it’s not FDA-approved, many people, including myself, have found hope in it.

  3. Detoxifying My Environment – I eliminated chlorine and fluoride from my drinking water, used air purifiers throughout my home, and focused on reducing toxins in my food and surroundings. I also paid attention to electromagnetic frequencies and avoided living near power lines.

  4. Strengthening My Mind-Body Connection – I prayed daily, practiced visualization, and created an affirmation video that I watched every day leading up to my surgery. It featured uplifting music, positive statements, and imagery of health and healing. I also leaned into my training as a Reiki master to foster healing energy.

  5. Taking Control of My Healthcare – I didn’t just accept the first answers I was given. I listened to my doctors, but I also did my own research. I negotiated with them to delay chemotherapy while I explored other options. I believe that being an active participant in my healthcare was critical.

Q: The Budwig Diet and Oxy Formula aren’t well known in mainstream medicine. How did you discover them?

William:
I discovered them through a resource called The Truth About Cancer, run by Ty and Charlene Bollinger. They’ve spent years interviewing cancer survivors, holistic treatment centers, and alternative medicine practitioners around the world. Their work opened my eyes to approaches I hadn’t heard about through my doctors.

Yes, if you Google these treatments, you’ll often find claims that they’ve been “debunked.” But what that usually means is there’s no large-scale clinical study because there’s no profit motive behind natural treatments. Nobody wants to spend millions on research for something they can’t patent.

I’m not here to argue against conventional medicine—I believe you should always consult your doctor. But I also believe you should do your own homework. There are more options out there than we’re often told.

Q: How important was mindset in your healing process?

William:
Mindset was everything. When your doctor tells you there’s no hope, it’s easy to believe it. But I had to override that message in my own mind. I told myself, I’m going to live. I’m not done yet.

Visualization, prayer, meditation, and positive thinking were part of my daily routine. I believe that our thoughts have power. I focused on reasons to live—my family, my pets, the people I care about.

There’s also real research to back this up. Dr. Kelly Turner’s Radical Remission Project studied people who survived cancer against the odds and identified nine key factors they shared. One of those was taking control of your health. Another was finding strong reasons to live.

Q: Looking back, how has your cancer journey changed your life?

William:
Before cancer, I was just going through the motions—working my 9-to-5, paying bills, spending weekends with friends and family. Cancer forced me to stop and reevaluate everything.

Now, six years cancer-free, I’m retired. I’m planning travel. I’m focusing on living life more abundantly instead of waiting for the next scan or worrying about what’s next.

I also believe that this journey happened for a reason. I was meant to go through this, learn what I learned, and share it with others who might be facing the same frightening diagnosis.

Q: What advice would you give to someone newly diagnosed with cancer?

William:
First, don’t give up on yourself. Listen to your doctors, but don’t be afraid to ask questions, do your own research, and explore options outside the box.

Second, focus on your mindset. Stay positive. Find your reasons to live. Remember that your mind, body, and spirit are connected.

And finally, consider the small things that can support your health every day—like taking digestive enzymes with meals and a daily probiotic. It’s not just about attacking the disease. It’s about strengthening your body’s ability to fight.
